What in the World

Dear Readers,

This is my first post of many. I'm a student at Ithaca High School and I'm enrolled in an English class called WISE.  For those of you that don't know what our WISE program is, the first semester is a typical English class, where we try to cram a years worth of work into 5 months. The second, and more exciting semester, consists of all the students in wise creating independent projects to carry out over the next 16 weeks. These projects are rather BIG ideas, and therefore require a lot of our time. So within the next few days one by one each and everyone of us will be "exited" from class and gain a free period 4 out of the 5 days a week. My project in particular focuses on the art of sewing. I have no experience what so ever with a needle and thread, let alone how to maneuver a sewing machine. For a while though I've thought it'd be a great skill to know.  The idea was rekindled recently while shopping on our local Urban Outfitters store. I wanted this adorable bandeau but it was THIRTY DOLLARS! for a strip of cloth! That's when I decided heck I can make that myself... and so here we are.  My plan is to take some lessons at a local organization called Sew Green ad maybe even do an internship with them. From my experiences there and new knowledge I hope to then create a few outfits to display as my final products! I'm a little nervous about getting discouraged or bored with the idea because it's something new and I really don't know if it will be a fast enough pace for me! I'm a runner and I like to keep moving! Also, I'd like to incorporate photography into the overall project but as of right now I'm not sure how that'll work! If anyone's out there feel free to give me some ideas! That's all I've got for now :)

                                      Later,
                                                 Emma
